Ten things about this week:
We are learning bird songs. Quail say “Chi-CAH-go“ and Scrub jays says “weep.” Chickadees have a song similar to their name. Robin have a variety of “cheery, Cheerio, cheer-up, hisselly.”
Spanish is finally making progress with weekends devoted to parents speaking in Spanish as much as possible and children whenever they choose to.
Tinkersketch has been a delight after focus and effort. Creativity is a reward in itself. I like to see what my children imagine.
Memory work and copy work have merged this month. I am experimenting with a new approach to give each child more accountability to learn well our poem, Shakespeare passage, hymn, folk song, speech and picture study.
Della had her book club. Here is her commercial on Sweep. “ This story weaves a world of hope, loss and love. It is about a girl who has a golem. She helps him to grow, but he gives her much more in return. They save themselves by saving others. This book is a beautiful tale of true friendship and finding light in a dark world. Sweep is so lovely.”
We went to the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve. It was cold, but I loved to see the birds. My favorite were a pair of red winged blackbirds.
Caroline had gymnastics and this time she felt safe to show her true boldness. She tried everything and loved it.
Olive is playful. She initiates peek-a-boo, pat-a-cake and a nose game. She has started wanting to mirror us. Reading when we read, brushing teeth and using spoons.
We pruned some peaches, grapes, raspberries and then it snowed and turned back to a winter feel. Eli discovered he could make gathering sticks and vines into a game.
Cole is feeling big emotions regarding moving. He misses his friends. His memories of our old house are fading. We have wept together. Moving has brought growth in many ways and growing up and out and on can hurt.
