Traditions

Traditions create a sense of belonging and culture of a family or place. Here are some new traditions and some keepers.

  1. Take a few pictures, and write down sayings to compile in a yearbook

  2. Prayer family, personal, specific gratitude and desires for each other

  3. Chores which include morning and bedtime duties, Saturday chores, play-put-away patterns, projects and dish duty, lady or lords of laundry, Captain Chef and caring for a garden and pets.

  4. Celebration of birthdays, anniversaries and holidays with story, poetry, music, and treats.

  5. Cuddling in the morning with the children.

  6. Family adventures, mostly camping but also day trips, family reunions and special road trips.

  7. Popcorn on Sunday evenings. Father child interviews, dates and family counsels.

  8. Family meals. Lots of them.

  9. A few monthly decorations. January we make large snowflakes out of tissue paper. February we hang heirloom quilt heart streamers. March we have daffodils, pussy willow and Irish blessings. April we decorate with lambs and pictures of the Savior. May have flowers and some dolls from around the world. June we decorate with bicycles. July flags. August is yet to be determined consistently. September we have fall foliage. October pumpkins. November has poppies and thankful hearts. December we love the lights, tree, nativity and Santas.

  10. More and more our traditions meld with our home education. We have nature and art, global regions and American history patterns of books we want to reread and activities that correlate.

Here are some fall pictures.
